Ingredients
  

For the Black Buns:

  • 2 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tbsp activated charcoal powderor squid ink can be used as alternatives
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tbsp instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water

For the Burger Patties:

  • 1 pound ground beef or plant-based meat substitute
  • 1/2 onion, finely chopped
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce (skip if making it vegetarian/vegan)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

For Assembly:

  • Lettuce leaves
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced onions
  • Your preferred condiments,such as mayonnaise, ketchup, mustard, and more.

Instructions
 

  • In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, activated charcoal powder or squid ink, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Mix well.
  • Gradually add warm water to the dry ingredients, stirring with a spoonor your hands until a sticky dough forms.
  • Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough back into the bowl, cover it with a damp cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for approximately 1 hour or until it doubles in size.
  • While the dough is rising, prepare the burger patties. In a separate bowl, mix the ground beef or plant-based meat substitute with the chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce (if using), salt, and pepper. Shape the mixture into patties according to your preferred size and thickness.
  • Heat a grill, stovetop grill pan, or frying pan over medium heat. Cook the burger patties for about 4-5 minutes on each side or until they reach your preferred level of doneness. Adjust the cooking time based on the thickness of the patties and the heat source being used.
  • Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into equal portions for the burger buns. Shape each portion into a bun shape and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). Let the buns rise for an additional 15-20 minutes while the oven is preheating.
  • Bake the buns in the preheated oven for approximately 15-20 minutes or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Take the patties out of the oven and allow them to cool for a brief period.
  • To assemble the black burgers, slice the buns in half horizontally.Place a lettuce leaf on the bottom bun, followed by the cooked burger patty.Add sliced tomatoes, onions, and any condiments of your choice. Top it with the other half of the black bun.
  • Serve the black burgers warm and enjoy!
